There it is.
There it is.
Modern Gaming has divulged into a pay wall paradise.

I agree. There hasn't been many games lately that I've been dying to play or even when I do play the game I'm not completely interested. I'll play the game for a few days and then get bored. I'm hoping that Hogwarts Legacy isn't a bust.
100%.
Most stuff that is out is utterly pointless, grindy, and pay-to-play for cosmetic items, not real loot. Destiny 2 has turned into a fashion show selling you weapon skins, armor skins, etc. Even 2042 has this.
I don't know if anyone remembers 2142, there was no pay-to-play, paywall, or store.
It was a pure game.
Elden Ring is one of the best releases in the modern made over a billion dollars, but fortnight makes more money on skins for characters and weapons than the entirety of Elden Ring.
Destiny 2 has also become a pointless grind with no real answer to solving major problems with the platform, leveling, and making it more fun for casual play, however, they just sell you more expansions, of regurgitated recycled gameplay.
Batman Gotham Knight is absolute garbage, taking 5 minutes or more to deal with street thugs that increase in level as you, so just more button smashing over and over.
I honestly don't know what is going on anymore with developers besides them being greedy, lazy, and uncreative.
Correction,
Modern AAA video games suck.
They have all become cash grabs that lead to the 80s era crash for gaming.
there have been plenty of indie gold the last few years.
Hell I've put almost 300 hours in to dwarf fortress since it launched on steam. (I could never get past the asci graphics of the free version...)
and I could name more indie has been a few A and AA games as well like High on life that have been quite enjoyable.
Dwarf Fortress?
Don't know about the rest of you but I think it sucks that most games are now play co-op but only online making it so you have to buy two of almost everything to play together. I miss the couch co-op where you could play but on split screens....Even though it made the screens smaller it was still much funner.
Just to finish that thought I love online play cause I would've never met all of you. Just wish the gaming world also had the couch co-op 2 player and online gaming for co-op.
games aint like it used to be :/
because you'd never want us on your couch

I went with roll20 and made my own game up (call of Cthulhu). It has COC rules but most of everything I have done homebrew wise. I just got sick of the games of today being so dull or no fun to play after 5-10 mins into it and your out $60 bucks.
i honestly agree with the fact that AAA titles arent what they used to be anymore. I have played Hogwarts Legacy, and its honestly the most fun i've had in a game to date, but im heartbroken over some of my favorite franchises like Battlefield and Halo go from pure gameplay to paywalls and cash grabs. im more inclined to find indie games now, since they focus on gameplay, rather than cosmetics.

It's the cash grab aspect. I'd love to play more games but buying two copies or convincing anyone to buy a game especially at the new 70 dollar kick in the crotch rate is just a lot to ask, especially if the game runs like crap or isn't as good as you'd hoped. Games can be really great value or really bad value.

It did have DLC, which segregated the player base. This is a problem for those who buy the DLC mostly.
Is it possible to spin up a game of 2142 right now? I know dedicated servers were heralded as the peak of PC gaming, but I don't know if its even playable still. If a server can't be brought up it might as well be a live service.
I hate to say it, but Fortnite is doing really cool stuff. Adding Lego 'we have Minecraft at home' from Wish.com/Temu is awesome. Rocket racing was a neat experience until the tracks went absolutely stupid. Guitar Hero Knockoff is neat, though the lack of plastic controllers really takes away from that game play. Maybe a VR version would work better? Smacking keys on a keyboard or controller doesn't really feel as awesome.
But it is just riddled with micro transactions and I still hate the way the gun play feels.
I just realized this thread is ancient.
