It is an in game feature. There are decals that can be placed on Vehicles. This process makes the decal very big so as to cover most of the tank. At that point ALL other people in the game can see your tank colors.

That doesn't work on me, because I look at their hatches (They're open if tank is destroyed) + nowadays destroyed tanks seem to burn/emit smoke indefinitely.
I am sad. My squadmate got killed today. He said that there is a Leo in the forest, but I couldn't see the forest because trees were on the way.
